What is ergothioneine (EGT)?
A naturally occurring, rare amino acid, usually biosynthesized by bacteria and fungi, first isolated in 1909from the fungus Claviceps purpure. It was later found to be present in human tissues and organs as well. It is anatural cell protector and antioxidant in the body, but our bodies are unable to synthesize it on their own.
